Built on Values

Each season encourages teamwork, respect, and personal growth—giving kids a chance to develop both as players and individuals through fun, practices and structured, age-appropriate competition.

Spiritual Growth Through the Game

At CYS, competition is more than just scoring goals—it’s a chance for young players to begin their athletic journey in a safe and supportive environment. Through games, teamwork, and shared experiences, kids learn how to handle challenges, support others, and grow in faith in a natural, engaging way.

By weaving spiritual growth into everyday play, our recreational league helps children build a stronger foundation—not just as athletes, but as individuals discovering purpose, connection, and joy through the game.

The affordable cost and family friendly atmosphere of CYS has enabled all five Escobar children the opportunity to play soccer on CYS rec teams for several years now! Playing on CYS teams has allowed them to spend time with their old friends, to develop new friendships, and to work with dedicated volunteer coaches to improve their soccer skills and knowledge. We are so grateful to have been a part of CYS soccer all of these years!
Escobar Family
My son Jake has played in the CYS for the last 2 seasons, and it has been a wonderful experience. All of the coaches are fantastic! I highly recommend this league!! We love it and will continue to play soccer through the CYS Thank you.
The Stephens family
Catholic Youth Soccer has been a great blessing to our family. Our eldest daughter has played two seasons in U10 and our son has played one season so far in U6. The volunteers, coaches, referees and organizers really do yeoman’s work. The U6 coaches make it fun for the kids and are on the field helping direct traffic. More than that, there’s a community being built. We see the same faces at Sunday mass as we do Saturday on the field. Some of us are even being called to volunteer as coaches. Anyway, we see CYS only getting better in the coming years and we’re happy to know many of our Saturdays will be booked for soccer for the foreseeable future.

My family Joined CYS after my oldest son had competed in 3-4 other recreational leagues in the North Tampa Area. What we found in CYS was a welcoming, reasonably priced, 12-week long, fun, and moderately competitive environment. We have now been with this league for approximately 8-9 years now and it is less of a league and more of a family. At this point I have coached almost every player in the league between the ages of 14 and 18. And the opportunities do not stop at playing soccer. There are even opportunities for older players to coach and referee while they earn valuable community service hours. I am glad that my family found this League which is fun, budget friendly, and has a positive atmosphere.

CYS has been a true blessing—my child grows in both faith and skill every season. It’s rare to find a program where kids can thrive both spiritually and physically. The joy and community here are unmatched.

Volunteering as a coach at Catholic Youth Soccer for the past three years has been a blessing and a true way to give back to the community. It’s given me the chance to support and guide our youth—not just in sports, but in life. I’ve seen firsthand how important it is to help boys and girls believe in themselves, work together as a team, and grow in character. This experience has strengthened my own faith and deepened my connection to our church family.

CYS has been a part of our lives for ten years and it is, therefore, an integral tradition of our children's childhood. This year we had six players, four matching blue jerseys (in different sizes of course), and a color coded game/snack schedule to rule them all. We are grateful to CYS for providing sportsmanship and fun in a setting all our family can enjoy together.

CYS has been such a blessing to our family! All three of my children have participated in the program. The coaches have a love for the game and teach skills and teamwork in a fun, faith centered environment. Our kids have grown in confidence and ability, and they look forward to every practice and game. We love to see the principles of our faith in action on the soccer field and watch friendships develop. It's been a truly wonderful experience. I highly recommend CYS to any parent looking for a positive, engaging soccer experience for their kiddos!

This past winter season of 2025 was exciting, emotional and an amazing growing experience for me, my boys and my family. Coaching my oldest son was a blessing. Watching him grow with his teammates, who taught me way more than I taught them, was the highlight of my season. We won the championship for our age group but being a part of a team that had all those high points, some of the lows we faced and overcame were far more rewarding. Being a member of a program that is directly related to our church, a program that follows the lords values and allows for our family to be a part of all aspects of the game was truly a blessing. We can’t wait until the next season. Thank you.

Catholic Youth Soccer has been one of the best experiences our family has ever been a part of. Our daughter plays on the CYS Tampa team, and it has helped her grow tremendously—not just as a soccer player, but as a confident, faith-filled individual. Her coaches foster a positive, encouraging environment that challenges her while nurturing her spirit.

Our son also plays on a CYS REC team, and he absolutely loves it! It’s been a great way for him to have fun, stay active, and build friendships in a values-based setting. We’re so thankful for the positive impact CYS has had on both of our children.

It is a great and beautiful thing to find a team where prayer, sportsmanship and skill development go hand in hand! We have seen our children grow in confidence and teamwork throughout the years. We are truly grateful to be part of this community.

My boys have been part of Catholic Youth Sports for the past three years, and it has been a wonderful experience. They absolutely love playing soccer and look forward to every season. It’s been a great way for them to grow in their skills, make new friends, and learn valuable lessons in teamwork and sportsmanship, all in a faith-filled environment. We’re so thankful to be part of this community.

CYS soccer has been a blessing in our lives because it affords our son a positive environment to play soccer with a reasonable time commitment. He chose CYS rather than school soccer because it can be as casual as one day of practice a week or more if you want a competitive league. School sports require a full-time commitment of 4-6 days weekly. CYS games are on Saturdays, not interfering with Mass and worship. The players and adults pray before and after each game to foster a Christian environment for playing sports. At the end of the year, there's a pizza party with awards and pictures. Just a wonderful time for the whole family.
The Lee family
It has been such a blessing to have our daughter Hanna join this league. My husband, Elvis and I tried other leagues, yet Hanna was not having fun; but since she has joined this league she gets excited to see her coaches and teammates. It is a positive and encouraging environment that has helped Hanna grow in confidence. Patrick is an incredible person for starting such a great program and a safe environment for kids to grow lasting memories and in athletic skills. I would recommend this league to anyone and have shared with friends and coworkers. Thank you to all the volunteers and to Patrick.
The Balbuena family
The Catholic Youth Sports (CYS) league has been a blessing to our family! Our daughter adores the competition on the field, and the lasting bonds she creates with new teammates each season.

Our experience with CYS over multiple seasons has been nothing short of amazing! Each year, my son has grown tremendously—developing his skills, building lasting friendships, and deepening his love for the game. The coaches do an incredible job creating a positive and encouraging environment. Their dedication to helping the kids grow both as athletes and individuals is truly appreciated. The parents and supporters have also been fantastic—always positive, welcoming, and engaged. Being part of this community has made each season a truly rewarding and memorable experience. We’re so grateful to be part of such a wonderful soccer family!

Our family has been part of Catholic Youth Soccer for over 10 years. Our older son started playing more than a decade ago, and now our youngest son is on the field as well. We’ve made so many beautiful memories through this program. It’s more than just soccer—it’s a place where families come together and children grow in both skill and spirit. We’re proud to be part of this community.
Elena Avakian
Amelia was excited to learn about soccer from Coach Tony. She loves the game and has learned much in just one season. We hope to participate again next season!

Thank you for your support of our players!

We just wanted to say thank you for everything you do. CYS has been such a wonderful part of our lives, and we’re really happy to be part of this community.

Here’s a short testimonial from us:

CYS has been such a great experience for our sons and for us as a family. They looks forward to every practice and game, and we’ve seen them grow—not just in soccer, but in confidence and faith too. The coaches are so encouraging, and the whole atmosphere is really positive and welcoming. We’re truly grateful to be part of CYS.

Our family has been part of the Catholic Youth Sports (CYS) league for several years now, with both of our children joining the soccer program when they were just nine years old. What began as a fun way to stay active and learn teamwork quickly turned into one of the most meaningful parts of our family life.

My husband (Chris Alfaro) had the blessing of coaching our children from the very beginning. Watching him lead with heart, faith, and dedication was rewarding for both of us as parents. Coaching wasn’t just about winning it was about building character, encouraging effort, and showing the kids that anything is possible when you play with passion and purpose. One season, we came so close to the final cup and proudly finished in second place. But truthfully, the friendships we built and the values we instilled along the way were the real win.

This past season marked my husband’s final year coaching, and the outpouring of love and gratitude from the kids was something we’ll never forget. They gifted him a signed soccer ball and shared heartfelt messages that left us both in tears. Hearing how much he inspired them—on and off the field was a powerful reminder of how impactful this league can be.

We are especially grateful for the sense of community that CYS fosters not just among the players, but also among the parents. We’ve formed lifelong friendships and grown together through the shared experience of supporting our children.

If there’s one piece of feedback we’d offer, it’s to consider opening a formal feedback opportunity for parents at the end of each season. While the spirit of the game and mission of CYS is clear, we did notice a few inconsistencies in how certain rules were followed across churches. We believe that parent feedback could help strengthen the program and ensure fairness for all teams.

All in all, our experience with CYS has been one of deep gratitude. Thank you for creating a space where faith, sportsmanship, and community come together so beautifully. We’ll carry these memories and the lessons with us always.

FAQs

We’re excited you’re considering joining the CYS family — one of the leading Tampa youth soccer leagues where kids grow in skill, spirit, and community through recreational soccer and competitive soccer.

What if my child has never played organized sports or it’s their first time playing a particular sport?

No problem! CYS is built for every kid — from first-timers in youth soccer programs to future stars.. Our teams mix experience levels, helping every player grow, learn, and love the game.

At CYS, every healthy player is guaranteed to play at least half the game — no exceptions. We believe every child deserves time on the field, regardless of skill level. Games are held on Saturdays at family-friendly local Tampa fields and churches, with a few matches — like the Catholic Cup — at special designated locations. Practices are held once a week and are voluntary, depending on your coach and church’s availability. Players are grouped by birth year to ensure fun, fair competition each weekend.

Your registration fee covers uniforms (shirt, shorts, and socks), professional player photos, and a fun, season-ending pizza party — all made possible by our incredible volunteers. Parents are responsible for providing shin guards and either soccer or tennis shoes. If you’re purchasing cleats, make sure they’re soccer-specific (no metal, baseball, or football cleats). Have old gear lying around? Donate outgrown cleats and shin guards to our Soccer Shoe Exchange to help other kids get game-ready!

Signing up is easy — Click the button “Register for Camp” to create an account first, and enter your child’s information. During registration, you can list friend requests, and we’ll do our best to place them on the same team (unless it creates a competitive imbalance). Team rosters are posted the Sunday night before the season kicks off, so you’ll know exactly where your child will be playing.

Early registration is $130, and regular registration is $175. You don’t have to pay everything up front — you can choose full payment or a convenient three-part payment plan (just note there’s a $3 service fee per transaction). A $45 late fee may apply if we need to place special uniform orders or make rush deliveries — because every kid deserves to be game-ready on day one!

Each season runs for 12 consecutive weekends filled with fun, growth, and competitive play. Our Winter Season (January–April) opens for registration in October, and the Winter Season (September–November) opens in June. Specifically, Rec League registration opens on June 1st. Be sure to register early to secure your spot!

Players are grouped by birth year to ensure fair, fun competition, and we offer coed teams for ages 5 to 18, making it easy to find youth soccer teams near you. Divisions include:

  • U6: Ages 5–6
  • U8: Ages 7–8
  • U10: Ages 9–10
  • U12: Ages 11–12
  • U14: Ages 13–14
  • U18: Ages 15–18

All divisions are adjusted based on participation. While we generally group by age, you can request for your child to play up — and we’ll do our best to accommodate when appropriate.

The season ends with the Catholic Cup, our epic, all-church tournament celebrating sportsmanship and community. Even if your team loses early, you’ll still play through the final weekend — and everyone’s invited to the big pizza party to wrap up the season!
